Production Planner, South Wales, £28 – £30k

Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Production Planner to join a manufacturer based in South Wales. The role is 40 hours per week, 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday however the organisation will require flexibility in the rare case of re-planning and emergency purchasing outside of these hours.

You can expect to achieve a salary of £28 - £30,000 however the organisation are willing to consider a relatively junior candidate at a lower salary who has the right attitude who they can develop internally.

 

The Role
The Production Planner will strive to ensure smooth running of manufacturing operations, using an MRP system to schedule and meet customer demands in a time efficient manner. The role will involve planning, purchasing and control of materials.
Duties will include:

  • Compilation of weekly production plan requiring short, medium and long-term planning and forecasting against customer orders / predicted forecasts
  • Compilation of weekly production plan in the most efficient way – minimising change-overs, optimum utilisation of employee numbers, minimising allergen clean-downs, etc
  • Horizon scanning of NPD launches and liaising directly with customers regarding volume increases, delists, seasonal activity, etc and planning accordingly
  • Working with Production Manager and production team to ensure delivery of plan
  • Monitoring delivery service levels and working with Operations Manager to implement corrective and preventative action to ensure service levels remain on target
  • Planning to be carried out in such a way as to maintain service level whilst balancing stock levels and therefore controlling cash flow
  • Purchasing raw materials (ambient, frozen and chilled meat) according to the requirements of the production plan
  • Longer term purchasing of raw materials according to long term production forecasts
  • Price negotiations with suppliers
  • Carrying out purchasing in bulk if seasonality demands or JIT whilst taking cash flow and forecasts lead times into account
  • Communicating information regarding planning, service level and raw material purchasing internally and ensuring all relevant staff are on-board with targets
  • Managing stock control of raw materials in off-site 3rd party storage

 

The Candidate

  • Previously held a production planning role
  • Experience of purchasing (ideally)
  • Experience of working within a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Experience of working with an extensive and complex product range
  • Determined individual with a positive attitude and great energy
  • Have a logical and methodical approach to planning and a calm and assuring manner that will put the organisations customers and internal stake-holders at ease.
  • Have the ability to react quickly to emerging situations and be able to juggle many tasks simultaneously.
